Greetings from Pasadena I pray God rains blessings on ya’ll. Its always hard to find the right words to get across and let everyone that receives this letter know how greatful I am for your prayers, friendship and financial support. I can only pray to God to allow me to achieve my dreams of higher education, while serving His people. Please continue to pray especifically for patience, understanding and knowledge to take in what I’m learning in college and in walking with God.

Harambee Center Minitry is going well We had an awesome summer day camp with 43 children ranging from pre-k through 6th grade. We received a lot of comments telling us this past summer was the best summer program so far. I have to admit that it was a hard summer for me. I felt the enemy attack me more than a few times. I want to thank the friends that stood by me during the summer and prayed with me. I’m greatful. After summer day camp ended Harambee hosted an annul conference for Christian Community Deveopment Association Youth (www.ccda.org). The conference was good. Our plenary speaker was Phil Jackson out of Lawndale Community Church in Chicago. Which was a church I did an urban youth work intership 3 years ago.
Harambee Executive Director It saddens me to write about this because its something that nobody in our community was expecting and it took us by surprise. Our executive director Rudy Carrasco has a 5yr. old son that was diagnosed with Leukimia. The whole process has been devastating, especially for Rudy and his wife Kafi who just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Little Sam Carrasco is going through chemo therapy at the moment and is doing well. Please keep them in prayer. If you would like to know more about Sam Sam’s status and keep up with it please visit www.psalm34.blogspot.com
College is great I never thought I would enjoy school. As you read this letter I’m in the fall semester at Pasadena City College. My plan was to be at Cal State Los Angeles this semester but it didn’t quite work out that way. I want to finish my Associates Degree at PCC before I start on my upper division courses at the univesity this coming year. God willing i’ll be done with my AA at PCC this coming December.
New Phiscal Year During the second week in September Istarted a bible study with some of the boys I consider F.A.T. (Faithful, Available, Teachable).
I’ve been chasing kids down for a while getting to know them more intentionally and seeking their leadership potential. And I’v found a few whom started junior high this fall. I’ve tallked with them about doing a bible study with the intention that throught the reading of the scriptures together they would learn how on their own take a piece of scripture, read it, look at it, study it, and from that come up with their own bible study. My goal is that by the time they reach their freshmen year in high school they can do a bible study on their own. So far the bible study is going well.
The Afterschool program began September 9th This year I’m tutoring the 3rd and 4th grade class. Later on I will be sending pictures of my class and kids. A brother from Denmark who is here for a 10 month internship is partnering with me to do the tutoring. His name is Erik
Que es Blogger? Blogger is a program that allows people to have a free online diary of what ever ramblings you want. I’ve had one for the last two years. I encourage you to visit it everyonce in a while. Feel free to leave comments. I titled it the SC Journal: The life and Ministry of Sergio Castaneda on Navarro Avenue. The url is www.castaneda.blogspot.com. I started it to keep track of events in my life as well as to let many friends know what I do on a day to day basis.
Prayer request: I really feel a need to seek deeper understading of the scriptures for my relationships with my neighbors, my peers, the children I deciple, for my love for God to grow stronger day after day, for my desire to serve His people not to fade, for the fire of the Holy Spirit that guides me day to day, please pray for Harambee, please pray for my family I love them and miss them dearly I have not seen my mother in over a year.
